This exhibition takes its starting point from Luis Borges’ short story Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius from 1940. The piece of writing is somewhere between a detective novel and a lecture about the discovery of an imaginary world. Elements of reality are mixed with the intrigue of a fictional secret society that slowly disseminates clues about another world, using books and objects which are said to be from that place.
One of the characteristics of the invented world is the production of hrönir. These are original objects which have been systematically reproduced with the unavoidable alterations that occur in the process of duplication. The participants in this exhibition have each set out to produce their own ‘hrönir’, according to their individual interpretations of the text.
